The 12th Smt. Gyan Devi Memorial Debate Competition was organized with all the fan fare, glitz & enthusiastic fervor on 19th November 2010. The event’s popularity can be measured through the tremendous response that this prestigious event is gaining with the passing of each year. This year it witnessed the participation of 35 schools from across the NCR in Junior & Senior Category each. The occasion was graced by esteemed guests & a panel of judges comprised of names from different educational institutions. The topic for debate for Senior Category was ‘Does Media assault family values?’ & ‘Real Strength comes from within’ for junior category. The competition was conducted in two groups for both categories for the sake of convenience & also for providing larger scope for the young vibrant debaters to display their thoughts on these thought provoking issues.
The competition was formally inaugurated by Mr. P.K.Sahgal, the Chairman, Adarsh Chain of Schools. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp gave an auspicious kick start to the event. The school Principal Mrs. Usha Sahgal presented the formal welcome address wherein she emphasized on the inculcation of moral values possessed by the founder in whose memory the competition is held every year. The notions put forward both in Senior & Junior category were indeed thought provoking on one hand the seniors voted for a complete restraint on media & on the other they recounted its benefits. In junior category also the speakers convinced the audience as well as the Judges that the real strength is a matter of internal / external stimuli very forcefully.
Pragya from Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar & Shubham from St. Cecilia’s Public School, Vikas Puri were the proud recipients of First Position – Anjali Satija from Adarsh Model School Dayal Sar Road & Radhika from N.C. Jindal Public School, bagged second position & Kriti Puri, from Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar & Swarnima Shoor from Adarsh Public School, Vikas Puri & Harshit from St. Cecilia’s Public School, Vikas Puri were placed at 3rd Position in Junior Category.
In Senior Category Aishwarya Rohtagi from Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar & Saravjeet Singh from Guru Teg Bahadur 3rd Centenary School was declared at First position. Shivank Sharma from Adarsh Public School, Vikas Puri & Tanya Jaspal from Bosco Public School was declared second where as Aasthe Dhingra from Oxford. Sr. Sec. School, Vikas Puri & Jayant Nahata from G.D.Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar was placed at 3rd position.
The coveted & prestigious Rolling trophy was awarded to Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Rashmi Mathur.
